Our second adventure for the day was when we took the MRT to Little India, which is one of the neighborhoods of Singapore. Today was a public holiday in Singapore in honor of Deepavali, or Festival of Lights. This festival is the beginning of the Hindu calendar year and celebrates the triumph of good over evil. Evidently, it would have been best to see this last night when you could see the lights, but the kids were too tired so we went today. This was quite an experience for us all. We were in awe of the amount of people on the street, the smells of food, and the amount of decorations. There were so many people that it made it difficult to walk by and see the shops. We were told that it was a big day of prayer and when we walked by one of the Temple's it was packed with people. This outing definitely took the kids out of their comfort zone and exposed them to a culture that they are not familiar with.... that IS why we are here!!
Wow! You guys have been quite busy already! This is going to be an awesome 6 months. Love, Theresa/Gammy
