Walking the City

Our second mission yesterday was to find a bank so that we could open an account here.  This turned out to be a very, VERY long adventure with lots of walking in circles to find the bank.  Yes, we were advised to take the MRT or taxi, but we thought walking would be a great way to discover the city.  We DID discover the city and found out that on Orchard Road there are more Starbucks and McDonald's than we have ever seen before.  Evidently, when we were looking for American food the night before, we were just on the wrong street!  They even have an outdoor Starbucks and McDonald's; very classy!  Anyway, our 15 minute walk to the bank turned into a 2 hour walk because we kept getting lost and we refused to get in a taxi since we were "almost there."  At one point we needed to cross the street and were not able to without going underground to cross.  This led to a half hour of not knowing how to get to the right corner and at one point we ended up on the same corner.  We felt like we were in Las Vegas when we have been stuck in a hotel casino and unable to find the street!  Anyway, the kids did amazing on this trip and we DID take a taxi back to our apartment.  On the way home,  Jake said, "Why did you tell us that we were only going to be walking for 15 minutes?"  Nice job mom and dad!
