Mt Faber Park
Today was Jeff's first day at work in Singapore. He woke up early, did a work out, and then took the MRT to his new office. That left the kids and I by ourselves all day. After their school work, we decided to venture out to a hiking area known as Mt Faber. We were fortunate to have the company of another ex-pat (term for people who are citizens from another country, working abroad) and her 4-year-old daughter. The 6 of us navigated the MRT and even did a line change. Once off the MRT, it was less than a 10 minute walk to the park area. Upon entering the trails, you are immediately in jungle-like foliage and you begin a steep ascent (via small stairs) the equivalent of a 24 story building. Like the Botanic gardens, we were surprised that within steps of the bustling city, there are areas that make you feel like you are somewhere else entirely. This was a great way to see the native tree and plant life of Singapore. Once at the top, the views were amazing. It was also unbelievable to be in the middle of greenery and beauty and to be able to see the city with all the high rises, new construction, and ships off the shore. Mt Faber Park joins with two other parks via the trails. We walked over the Henderson Waves Bridge (the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore) which connects two of the three parks together. At the top of the first trail we took, there is a restaurant/bar with amazing views. We stopped for a glass of water and the kids were enthralled by the number of Koi in their pond. From this point, you can even take a cable car back down the mountain! We look forward to exploring more of these trails and maybe even having a beverage at the bar next time.
